Start of Putnam County Fair: Promising Yet Sweltering

ELEANOR, West Virginia (WOWK) — The Putnam County Fair is currently underway.

The venue welcomed guests on Friday night for the start of celebrations, with numerous sellers completing their setup just minutes prior.

Right from the start, there were many activities available at Putnam's fair. Visitors had the opportunity to see the livestock, participate in games, and listen to live performances. The carnival attractions began operating at 6:30 p.m.

The event includes several high-energy rides along with more relaxed, family-friendly activities. A foam pit offers a large mound of bubbles where children (and grown-ups) can have fun.

However, the Putnam County Fair has only just begun. Every day offers additional events and attractions to explore.

On Sunday, a group of tap dancers delivered a remarkable performance inside the tent located at the center of the area. Nearby, visitors were reserving their spots ahead of the upcoming animal performances.

Seth Fitzwater participates in egg competitions at the Putnam County Fair, and this year, he earned the grand champion award for presentation and finished seventh among nine entries in the selling sequence.

I've always been part of the Putnam County Fair," Fitzwater stated. "This is simply where my heart belongs. Staying local, as this is home.

Recent weeks have seen an intense sun in West Virginia, with Putnam County also experiencing its effects. The high temperatures have reduced turnout at the Charleston Regatta during daytime hours and appears to be impacting attendance similarly as the fair's events begin.

Business has been positive," mentioned Jessie Adkins, a staff member at the vendor. "I believe it will become even more hectic. Individuals tend to arrive toward the end of the week once the track begins hosting more activities during the evenings.

The running competitions might be the highlight of the festival. These include a rodeo, a lawn mower contest, a wrecking ball competition, and an off-road motorcycle event.

The leisure pavilion includes remarkable activities. On Wednesday, visitors will have the chance to watch a boxing competition.

The Putnam County Fair will end on July 19 with an impressive fireworks display starting at 10 p.m.
