Review: Crews Clash on a Deserted Island in *Nautilus* Episode 4

Episode 4 of Nautilus "Slippery When Wet" starts with the Nautilus once more confronting the chasing dreadnought. The dreadnought opens fire on the Nautilus but deliberately misses, though the explosion still shakes the vessel. As before, a bold Nemo exits the Nautilus, this time without his diving gear. He swims toward the dreadnought and uses an axe to attack the turret. After shattering it, he is pushed back by the force of the explosion.

Billy Millais (Luke Arnold) experiences memories of his early years spent together with Nemo, during which they both acted as bullies among their peers. I'm interested to find out whether he eventually changes allegiance. Occasionally, he is disturbed by the racial attitudes of the corporate officials, yet he fulfills his duties when required.

Nemo is saved and brought back to life aboard the Nautilus. The harm caused to the battleship gives them enough time to escape from the bay.

We then meet with the White Rajah and Jagadish aboard the dreadnought. I believe the vessel needed to be repaired and they were taken onboard, although this process isn't depicted. Crawley arranges for the ship's physician to treat Jagadish's wounds.

If the Rajah tries to find refuge in return for handing over Jagadish, Crawley will stab him. Crawley is not a person you should challenge; it seems as though he always carries a knife, waiting for a reason to draw it.

It seems the provisions obtained from the Rajah's location did not endure for very long, prompting Nemo to steer the Nautilus toward a group of islands in pursuit of additional sustenance. Fortunately, they have started cultivating herbs in the kitchen, gathering seaweed, and capturing some fish to accompany their worms.

At the first island, a group of explorers steps onto the shore. They collect dragonfruit and papayas to stock up their supplies. Blaster comes across several big rock crabs.

Nemo and Humility talk on the shore as they look for freshwater. They share additional details about their pasts. This might be leading toward a potential romance between them.

Back aboard the Nautilus, Loti and Kai spend time together. Their relationship is unconventional due to their contrasting personalities, yet it's fascinating to observe. We catch a brief glimpse of Loti's detailed back tattoo. I notice a compass at the center, flying birds, and figures that might represent land. This suggests the presence of a map!

Wishing to become an essential part of the team, Cuff seeks out Benoit. They discuss a recently developed stun gun and the motivations behind the construction of the Nautilus. It brings to mind that Jules Verne's work has inspired aspects of steampunk; the machinery and devices featured in this series are enjoyable. Despite being utilized by both Crawley and Nemo, Benoit remains dedicated to exploration and scientific advancements rather than war. Although he appears weary, his spirit stays optimistic.

Suyin (Ling Cooper Tang) finds evidence of others living on the island. Blaster tracks the crabs and stumbles upon the skeletonized remnants of a ship's crew. Tags around their necks indicate they were traitors. Another group resides on the island, and they appear unfriendly.

In the meantime, Nemo and Humility trigger a rope trap. It not only suspends both of them off the ground but also connects to a ship's bell located high in a tree, which notifies another group of sailors who have been stranded on the island. Before Nemo and Humility can be captured, someone cuts them down. The mysterious person instructs them to follow her if they wish to survive. Isn't that one of the most commonly used lines in modern cinema? It started with... Terminator ?

The unfamiliar person is Casimir, portrayed by Muki Zubis, who players might remember from Baulder’s Gate 3 She has been staying away from the shipwreck survivors. She guides Nemo and Humility to security via timber passages and boulders. All of them introduce themselves, and Casimir demonstrates her method for purifying water.

The stranded sailors discover the hidden snare. Their commander, Henry Mogg (Noah Taylor), shouts, vowing not to hurt anyone who comes forward. When none do, he orders his crew to search. They locate Blaster after he tumbles from a gap in the passage.

The crew takes Blaster back to their base, where he claims his father is a nobleman. He fabricates the reason for being on the island, omitting any mention of the Nautilus and the submarine. Unluckily, this puts him in the company of Captain Mogg, who casts him out onto a temporary raft above a deep water hole. It turns out these sailors are madmen who nourish a beast known as the Collector.

Nemo and Humility arrive at this unruly group, and she delivers an outburst to maintain their focus. Casimir is positioned far up high and descends a rope for Blaster to save himself.

The predator arrives. This horrifying, tooth-filled giant ocean eel bites into Mogg before pursuing Nemo, Humility, Blaster, and Casimir among the rocks and trees.

At the boat, which is now filled with fruit, the rest of the crew wait and observe that something is unusual about the dog. He had been exploring outside earlier, but now appears to be acting as though he's intoxicated.

All gather at the shore with the eel following closely. They push away, wishing to reach the Nautilus before it catches up. They arrive at the vessel, yet the animal detects its machinery as soon as it starts.

They get ready to descend, but Casimir declines to enter. The eel wraps around the Nautilus as Casimir remains outside.

The eel is drawn toward the ship's energy coil. The vessel's electronic systems become unstable. Humility quickly takes initiative and turns off the engines. The eel becomes charged with electricity and wraps its body tightly around the Nautilus.

The episode ends with Millais using the hydrophone, detecting some sound. Could it be the Nautilus?
