John Goodman Sheds 200 Pounds for 'Smurfs' Premiere Appearance

John Goodman is in high spirits.

A former "Roseanne" cast member, aged 73, was spotted at the "Smurfs" movie premier in Los Angeles on Sunday following his successful weight loss of 200 pounds.

Goodman confidently displayed his weight loss journey on the red carpet, striking poses for pictures dressed in a navy-blue suit paired with a dark gray patterned necktie and brown oxfords.

The performer provides the voice for Papa Smurf in the animated musical movie helmed by Chris Miller.

Among the well-known actors are Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Dan Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, and Hannah Waddingham.

At his peak weight, Goodman was 392 pounds when he began his health transformation in 2007.

One of the earliest instances he made his debut with a 200-pound weight reduction appeared on the red carpet at the 62nd Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June 2023.

With the assistance of personal trainer Mackie Shilstone, Goodman shed pounds by quitting drinking, implementing various diet adjustments such as embracing a Mediterranean diet and keeping up with a regular exercise routine that included walking between 10,000 and 12,000 steps daily along with utilizing an elliptical machine and a treadmill.

Spending a lot of imaginative effort just sitting around deciding what to eat next. Goodman told People magazine In 2010, "I desired to experience life more fully."

In 2016, he told ABC I'd take a small amount of food and bring it to my mouth. I was constantly eating. It was like I was consuming everything compulsively.

"In the past, I used to take three months off, drop 60 or 70 pounds, and treat myself to a 6-pack of Bud or something similar before returning to my usual routines," he added.

this time around, I wanted to take my time, start moving, and get some physical activity. I'm at an age where staying inactive isn't an option anymore. Plus, it helps me gain the energy needed for work, since it’s really exhausting.

Goodman recently finished his role as Dan Conner about "The Conners." The "Roseanne" sequel aired its series finale in April, the final scene showed Goodman seated alone in the family lounge, uttering "goodnight" directly into the camera.

The executive producer and showrunner Bruce Helford shared with The Post that the last scene was... was Goodman’s idea.
