Ford Recalls 850K Vehicles — No Solution in Sight

Yet another big Ford recall Has been officially revealed, featuring 850,318 units in the most recent batch—and this model covers all body styles available in Dearborn.

More specifically, models from the years 2021 to 2023 include the Ford Bronco Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, F-550 Super Duty, 2021–2022 model year Lincoln Navigators, Ford Mustangs , Ford F-150s and the 2022 expeditions are all part of the recall. This new recall notice centers on a minor component that could lead to significant problems. Reports submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that low-pressure fuel pumps present in these 850,000 vehicles are susceptible to malfunction because of debris affecting the jet pump. According to NHTSA, approximately 10 percent of the affected cars are expected to encounter this problem.

Inability to maintain proper fuel pressure and flow from the low-pressure fuel pump may stem from dirt buildup within the jet pump, particularly when fuel levels are low, along with diminished internal space inside the pump which leads to higher internal resistance and greater vulnerability to vapor lock, the recall report reads .

Certainly, a malfunctioning fuel pump prevents the engine from getting the necessary gasoline, which can cause it to stop running while in motion. Vehicle owners might experience decreased engine performance, like irregular firing or an unstable idling, see a warning indicator illuminate, or feel a loss of power. According to Ford, this type of fuel pump issue tends to happen more frequently during high temperatures or when the tank has minimal fuel or very hot fuel.

Ford initially identified this problem in September 2022, during an internal Critical Concern Review Group meeting. opened an investigation a rise in warranty claims and component returns related to fuel delivery systems on vehicles from the 2021-2022 model years. Initial findings indicated that these fuel delivery components became obstructed due to impurities, yet an examination of Ford's Mexican vendor, Phinia, revealed enhanced product quality following multiple remedial measures. The company’s internal review concluded in July 2023 when Ford reported a reduced number of warranty incidents. Nevertheless, the NHTSA initiated a preliminary inquiry regarding Ford's fuel system in July 2024 upon receiving six reports claiming a reduction in vehicle propulsion capability under specific conditions. Bronco models It wasn't until May 2025 that Ford revisited its warranty claim statistics and discovered they were rising once more, prompting the company to look into its suppliers again and announce a recall on June 30. Ford has no knowledge of any incidents or injuries connected with this problem.

No solution has been developed yet either. Ford states that owners of these models will be informed once a repair becomes available. Significantly, most of the 850,000 vehicles involved in the recall are Broncos (109,881) and Ford F-150s (455,261). Regardless, this recall indicates that Ford dealerships will remain occupied with repair tasks for an extended period.
