China's Zeekr 9X: A Giant, High-Speed Challenger in the Luxury SUV Race

An enormous sport utility vehicle exceeding 5.2 meters in length can go from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in only 3.1 seconds, as it has now been revealed.

According to CarNewsChina on Saturday, Geely The high-end electric vehicle division of the group, Zeekr, has unveiled the key details of its latest top-tier SUV model, the Zeekr 9X.

Set to launch pre-sales during the Chengdu Motor Show at the end of August, this six-seat plug-in model hybrid SUV boasts powerful performance and cutting-edge technology gaining visibility in the marketplace.

The Zeekr 9X is a large-sized SUV with a length exceeding 5.2 meters and a width surpassing 2 meters, providing a premium driving experience through its 2+2+2 seating layout consisting of six seats. It is set to officially debut in China at the conclusion of this year’s third quarter and will mark Zeekr's eighth vehicle produced in bulk.

This marks the initial model created using Geely Group's newest electric platform, known as the SEA-S architecture. Designed specifically for plug-in hybrid configurations, it incorporates "Haohan Hybrid" technology which provides exceptional power along with improved fuel economy.

One of the standout features is its powertrain. The Zeekr 9X integrates a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine generating 275 horsepower along with three electric engines, providing an overall system power of 1,381 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.1 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 240 km/h.

The battery also outperforms rivals. Featuring CATL's 70kWh large-capacity battery, it provides an all-electric vehicle range of up to 380 km (according to China's CLTC standards), along with a total driving range surpassing 1,000 km when combining both electric and extended ranges.

Due to its 900V high-voltage setup and 6C rapid charging feature, the battery can reach 80% charge from 20% in only 9 minutes.

As per Zeekr, this charging rate surpasses 99% of all globally produced battery-electric vehicles. In contrast, the BYD Yangwang U8 has a battery capacity of approximately 49 kWh. Possessing the highest battery size within plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, the Zeekr 9X achieves a strong market advantage.

The frame system is also notable. The Zeekr 9X features a twin-cell air suspension along with a CDC two-way valve mechanism, enabling adjustments in ride height of as much as 110mm based on driving situations. The highest possible clearance measures 288mm, and the vehicle can lift its body by 30mm within just 7 seconds.

Moreover, a 48V active anti-roll bar improves driving steadiness. This function efficiently reduces vehicle lean when turning, and the artificial intelligence-powered suspension control system adjusts automatically to different off-road conditions such as snow, mud, and rugged paths, providing consistent performance.

The Zeekr 9X offers exceptional structural rigidity. It has a torsional stiffness rating of 41,600 Nm per degree. The vehicle’s frame consists of 91% high-strength steel and aluminum. Ten critical zones have tensile strength above 2,000 MPa, greatly improving protection and longevity.

Also included are advanced driver assistance systems. Upper trim levels feature the G-Pilot H9 system, which combines five high-definition LiDAR sensors along with two NVIDIA Drive Thor processors, providing an overall computational power of 1,400 TOPS. This allows for Level 3 automated driving functions.

The base trim models include the G-Pilot H7 system, utilizing a single chip capable of delivering 700 TOPS of processing power to offer an effective level of semi-automated driving. Zeekr intends to enhance these capabilities even more via over-the-air software upgrades.

The interior Highlights opulence. The front row includes top-tier seating equipped with integrated headrest audio systems, whereas the second row offers individual captain’s chairs featuring a weightless setting and motorized footrests. Every seat is crafted from superior leather and organic elements.

The dashboard features a spacious suspended touch screen, along with two wireless charging stations, and an elegant drive mode controller made from glass-like material. The middle console is crafted using real wood, enhancing its luxurious appearance, whereas controls for adjusting the seats can be found on the doors for better user-friendliness.

One distinctive aspect is the button-activated door entry mechanism, eliminating conventional door knobs. Located behind the D-shaped steering wheel is an electronic shift lever, contributing to the advanced look of the cabin.

Pre-orders for the Zeekr 9X will start in China during the Chengdu Auto Show towards the end of August, with an official release planned for the third quarter of 2025. The exact pricing has not been revealed yet.
