Ford has issued a recall for 850,318 vehicles because of a possible problem that might lead to failure of the low-pressure fuel pump, causing the engine to stop running during operation. The company stated it hasn’t received any information about incidents or injuries connected to this recall.

As per records submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall involves certain 2021–2023 Ford Bronco, Explorer, and Lincoln Aviator SUVs, as well as Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 SD trucks, along with 2021–2022 Lincoln Navigator, Ford F-150, and Mustang models. According to Ford’s estimate, approximately 10% of these vehicles could be impacted by this problem.

According to the recall paperwork, there are two main problems. First, contamination of the jet pump during low-fuel conditions may cause a decrease in fuel pressure and flow from the low-pressure fuel pump. The second problem involves smaller internal gaps within the fuel pump, which can raise internal resistance and make it more prone to vapor lock. If adequate pressure isn’t maintained, the supply of fuel to the engine could become insufficient, causing the engine to shut off while in motion.

Consumers might notice the fuel pump problem due to reduced engine function, such as stalling or uneven operation. The "check engine" warning indicator could also turn on. According to recall records, fuel pump malfunctions tend to be more common when the tank is nearly empty or during hot weather conditions.

Ford continues to work on a solution for the recall problem. The first notices to owners will be sent out on July 14, with follow-up letters scheduled once a fix is ready. Car owners can check the NHTSA recalls site To check whether their car is included in the affected group.
