Cadillac Secures Back-to-Back WEC Pole in Brazil as Ferrari Fails Hyperpole Again

General Motors supported its 1-2 finish at Le Mans this past month by securing a front-row position for the Six Hours of São Paulo, featuring Alex Lynn driving the No. 12 Cadillac V-Series R. He claimed pole in Hyperpole just one-tenth of a second ahead of Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 38 sibling vehicle.
"It's amazing to be on pole once more; it's a unique experience to drive the Cadillac in just one lap," Lynn mentioned during the WEC broadcast regarding his consecutive podium finishes.
"We were aware we had to begin from the forefront of this competition," Lynn added.
Bourdais and the No. 38 will begin from the third position following a penalty incurred for impeding Paul Di Resta's Peugeot, moving the No. 5 Porsche 963 to the front row.
The No. 5 Porsche, driven by Julien Andlauer, finished third, while 21-year-old Malthe Jakobsen came in fourth for Peugeot, marking their strongest qualification performance of the season in the No. 94. Both Peugeot 9X8 cars achieved Hyperpole for the first time. The No. 93 started just behind its teammate Peugeot, with the No. 20 BMW positioned in between.
After making a significant change to Ferrari's balance of performance, both factory-red Ferraris did not make it into the top ten and therefore were excluded from hyperpole. Robert Kubica, who won at Le Mans, drove the yellow Ferrari into hyperpole and will begin the race in ninth position, behind the factory entries numbered 50 and 51, which qualified in 14th and 17th places respectively.
Predictable," remarked Nicklas Nielsen after his teammate failed to secure a qualifying spot. "Antonio [Fuoco] had a strong lap but encountered a Porsche, which disrupted the qualification. Looking at the Toyota entries too, they're having trouble. Winning the race will require a miracle. It'll be tough to overtake from the rear of the grid.
Qualifying at Interlagos is well-known for drivers facing challenges due to brief qualification time windows on the tight circuit. During the race, passing will be tough, as most overtake attempts happen in the 'Senna S' section around turns 1 and 2.
