Anurag Kashyap Slams T-Series: Films Lack Quality Music

Film director Anurag Kashyap has recently shared memories of not receiving fair compensation for the soundtracks of his movies—'Dev D' (2009) and 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (2012). He criticized Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series for devaluing artistic excellence.

Kashyap, during an interview with The Juggernaut He mentioned that music companies frequently invest in movies based on celebrity appeal. He remarked, "The aim isn't to target the market. If T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, isn't purchasing it, then it must be quality music. T-Series does not acquire decent music at a fair cost (sic)."

The filmmaker added, "They offered minimal payment for 'Dev D,' 'Gangs of Wasseypur,' or 'Gulaal.' They only compensate based on the presence of a big-name actor. They don't value the musical quality (sic)."

"They didn't pay anything for the 'Dev D' soundtrack. Talk to the producers at UTV Studios… they can’t recognize quality music. They'll only compensate for a specific type of music and promote just that," Kashyap continued.

The most money they ever spent on one of my films was "Bombay Velvet" (2015). While the soundtrack was excellent, it didn’t perform well for them. Since people weren’t interested in listening to jazz, they invested the largest sum on this film rather than "Dev D" or "Gangs of Wasseypur," he mentioned.

Bhushan Kumar or T-Series has still not commented on the statement made by the director of 'Gangs of Wasseypur.'

"Bombay Velvet" starred Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. and Karan Johar in prominent roles. Although the movie did not do well at the box office, Amit Trivedi's soundtrack garnered praise. The film was released by Phantom Films.

Kashyap recently revealed his new crime thriller "Nishaanchi" , highlighting the first performance by Aaishvary Thackeray as an actor. The movie is set to come out on September 19, 2025.

"Chasing Shadows" is directed by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh through Jar Pictures, in collaboration with Flip Films, and will be released by Amazon MGM Studios.
