Abilene Community Rallies for Boy's Birthday Amid Health Battles

ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Residents of Abilene gathered today to honor the birthday of a young boy named Zaiden, who has been fighting a rare and severe kidney disease.

Zaiden has been living with multicystic dysplastic kidney disease and advanced kidney failure—a hereditary disorder where one kidney doesn’t form properly during pregnancy. Rather than developing regular tissues, the affected kidney becomes filled with fluid-filled sacs and doesn't work as it should.

Although Zaiden has recently undergone a kidney transplantation, he still encounters major health issues. At present, he is experiencing additional medical problems such as excess fluid accumulation and increased pressure within the skull, which lead to considerable discomfort. Because of his current state, Zaiden cannot remain exposed to sunlight for extended periods.

Although they faced many challenges, Zaiden and his identical twin sister, Zailee, who both turned another year older today, July 13, were enveloped in affection and encouragement from their neighborhood. A parade of vehicles adorned with balloons, messages, and kind notes drove by the family's house as part of a special event.

This birthday represents a mixed emotion — Zaiden has always missed celebrating at home because of regular hospital visits. He is set to go back to Cook Children’s Medical Center on Monday.

Zaiden's great-uncle, Jose Muñiz, expressed his feelings regarding Zaiden's birthday celebration today.

"It means a great deal that so many individuals showed up to show their support even though this was organized at the last minute. We're truly grateful, particularly for all the prayers offered and those still being prayed. We sincerely value that," Muñiz stated.

The community's wave of encouragement provided joy and solace to Zaiden and his family during a period that has proven extremely challenging.
