The recall has been initiated amidst a Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control investigation of a Salmonella outbreak linked to the cucumbers.

Up until now, 26 individuals across over a dozen states have fallen ill. Among them, nine patients required hospitalization. Salmonella is a bacterium capable of causing gastroenteritis and fever.

Individuals generally fall ill between 12 and 72 hours following consumption of food tainted with Salmonella. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection comprise diarrhoea, fever, and stomach pains, often persisting for four to seven days.

Children younger than five years old, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems are at greater risk of experiencing serious illness.

The FDA recommends that consumers consult with their healthcare provider if they believe they may be experiencing symptoms of Salmonella infection following consumption of possibly tainted cucumbers.

Should you have doubts about the safety of the cucumbers in your refrigerator, the agency recommends discarding them. Similarly, retailers should refrain from selling any products that might be tainted.

People who bought the recalled cucumbers, as well as restaurants and shops that handled them, should clean and disinfect all surfaces or containers that came into contact with these vegetables.
